Description 

•Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a form of automatic identification technology (auto ID).

•Auto ID is characterized by data forms that are machine readable.

•Other types of Auto ID include bar codes, magnetic stripes, optical character recognition, electronic article surveillance (EAS) security tags, optical character group (OCG) etc.

•These technologies can be further characterized by those that require contact in order to be read (magnetic stripes), and those that do not (such as, bar codes, EAS, OCG, RFID).
